Research & Development

Diagnostic Imaging within the Hospitals of Hamilton Health Sciences includes the separate departments of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. This separation within Diagnostic Imaging is significant because of the historical differences in research contributions and efforts between Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. Examination of the differences between the two Departments may help highlight features required for promotion of research activities.

The current incarnation of the Radiology Research Committee (strictly this should be the Diagnostic Imaging Research Committee) has been in operation for 3-4 years. The initial stimulus was to review the extent of research activities and to examine mechanisms for the appropriate recovery of revenue which had been either lost or charged inappropriately. Once more equitable and efficient procedures were in place, the committee turned its attention to focus on other objectives. One of those objectives is to promote research activities throughout Diagnostic Imaging.
