Graduate Education (Faculty of Health Sciences)
Graduate Program in Medical Sciences
This Program leads to a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree, and has been designed to make available to students the educational, research and clinical resources of the Faculty of Health Sciences of McMaster University. These resources offer a wide range of laboratories, teaching, and clinical facilities that can be used for learning and for research. The Program is designed to provide the opportunity for advanced education and research in the Health Sciences. Programs of study are available at the Ph.D. and M.Sc. levels in six areas: Cell Biology and Metabolism; Haemostasis, Thromboembolism and Atherosclerosis; Molecular Biology, Genetics and Cancer; Molecular Immunology, Virology and Inflammation; Neuroscience and Behavioural Science, and Physiology and Pharmacology. The range of research includes cellular and molecular biology, receptor biochemistry, intra and extracellular recording, psychopharmacology, behaviour, immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridization and light, electron and confocal microscopy. Individual and collaborative team projects are pursued to advance our understanding of nervous system function in normal systems and in neurologic and psychiatric disease states.

Graduate Program in Health Research Methodology
The Graduate Program in Health Research Methodology educates health professionals and people with diverse backgrounds in the social and biological sciences, in population health, clinical epidemiology, health care and health services research methods. Students undergo rigorous methodological training in the use of a wide variety of research techniques including the design of experimental, observational, and qualitative studies. They may learn about issues in measurement, health policy analysis, economic evaluation and program evaluation and develop the biostatistical skills needed to become independent researchers. The aim is to produce graduates capable of contributing to the solution of a wide range of problems in population health and the health care field. This Program cuts across departmental lines and thus draw interested and skilled faculty from a broad range of disciplines.
