Mood Disorders Program
General Description and Overview
The Mood Disorders Program is a large and comprehensive program including the Women’s Health Concerns Clinic which provides services to patients living in Hamilton and southeastern Ontario. The Program provides integrated, evidence-based patient care and is engaged in a broad range of research related to mood disorders. It is strongly committed to educating both learners and the public.
The Regional Program consists of outpatient clinics and a 15 bed inpatient unit. The Program provides established and investigational psychotherapies, psychopharmacological treatments and direct stimulant treatments such as ECT and TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation). In addition to working with patients with treatment resistant illness, the program also does extensive early intervention work with patients with newly diagnosed illness. The program provides 1,000 consultations annually and at any time has 600 patients enrolled in its programs.
Both the Mood Disorders Program and Women’s Health Concerns Clinic are heavily involved in research, with more than 20 ongoing research projects and more than $3 million in research funding.
The Mood Disorders Program provides integrated service with the Anxiety Treatment and Research Clinic and provides treatment for patients with co-morbid illness.
