Child and Youth Mental Health Program
General Description and Overview
This program provides a diverse range of services for children, youth and their families. Multidisciplinary, multi-skilled teams provide care to more than a thousand clients and families a year at the Chedoke Hospital and at McMaster University Medical Centre. Services are organized as an integrated system with a specific focus on children and youth with serious and complex mental disorders. Services range from highly accessible educational services for parents in the community to a 22 bed inpatient service. The program endorses the use of evidence based practice and uses least restrictive clinically appropriate interventions. As a clinical program at McMaster Children’s Hospital the program has strong links with services within the paediatric academic health centre including, developmental paediatrics and autism and eating disorders. As a provider of tertiary level services across the region, the program works in collaboration with multiple stakeholders and partners providing a range of consultative, assessment and treatment services. Community Education Services can be accessed directly but all other services require physician support. The program works in collaboration with CONTACT, the single point of entry for MCYS funded children’s mental health services in Hamilton to ensure access.
