  • Review perioperative implications of Massive Transfusion and evidence based management.
  • Gain insight into fast tracking surgical repair of patients with hip fractures and resultant outcomes.

  • Review the Anesthetic considerations of patients with Massive Trauma.
  • Identify the significance of monitoring markers such as Troponins in recognizing Cardio vascular risks and discuss risk reduction strategies.

  • Review the pharmacology of new anticoagulants and perioperative recommendations/guidelines.

  • Discover Therapeutic Hypothermia, indications, outcomes and initiating protocols post Cardiac Arrest.
  • Assess perioperative concerns in a patient with significant cardiac disease in an obstetrical patient and learn how multidisciplinary management of complications saved the day.

Description: In this 3rd Annual CME event, program participants will acquire evidence-based approaches to important topics in caring for elderly patients in a primary care setting such as management of Urinary Incontinence, Insomnia in the Elderly and Essentials of Wound Care. A new provincial Behavioural Supports program will be presented which is designed to make caring for demented elderly in the home a more manageable task for primary care providers. Issues of Polypharmacy and Appropriate use of Anti-Psychotic medication in the elderly will also be discussed by leading experts in our region. The day will open and close with provocative talks from nationally renowned speakers who will challenge participants to consider the manner in which we deliver best care to our complex, elderly patients.
