Announcement regarding the Associate Dean, School of Rehabilitation Sciences

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Patty Solomon as Associate Dean, School of Rehabilitation Sciences effective January 1, 2011.
Dr. Patty Solomon is currently a Professor in the School of Rehabilitation Science. She received her diploma in Physiotherapy from the University of Manitoba in 1978, her MHSc from McMaster University in 1985 and her PhD from the University of Waterloo in 1995. She came to the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster in 1989 and was the Assistant Dean of the Physiotherapy Program from 1996 to 2003. She was actively involved in developing the first professional masters of physiotherapy in Canada and her efforts in the field of curriculum design and innovation were recognized in 2003 when she received the President’s Award for Excellence in Educational Leadership.
Over the past five years Dr. Solomon has lead the initiative on interprofessional education within the Faculty of Health Science and established the Program for Interprofessional Practice, Education and Research (PIPER). She has received over $ 2.5 million in funding to support research and evaluation on interprofessional education and collaboration.
Dr. Solomon is also one of the first rehabilitation scientists to develop a research program in the emerging area of HIV and disability. She has received CIHR funding for her research related to disability experienced by women living with HIV and on the influence of aging on adults living with HIV. She has been on the board of directors of two AIDS service organizations and is currently working with a team to examine HIV and disability in a global context.
I congratulate her on her successful appointment to the role of Associate Dean, School of Rehabilitation Sciences.
