It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Jonathan Adachi as the Alliance for Better Bone Health Chair in Rheumatology effective February 1, 2006.
Dr. Adachi received his MD from McMaster University (1997). Following this, he completed an internal medicine residency (1982) and rheumatology residency (1984), both at McMaster University.
Dr. Adachi has held a faculty appointment in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University since December 1985. He is currently a Professor of Medicine and the Director of the Hamilton Arthritis Centre at St. Joseph's Healthcare.
Dr. Adachi has conducted many clinical trials and has published extensively on a wide variety of therapies for the prevention and treatment of corticosteroid-induced and postmenopausal osteoporosis. He has participated in the development of guidelines for the treatment of postmenopausal and corticosteroid-induced osteoporosis.
The recipient of numerous awards, Dr. Adachi received an Arthritis Society Clinical Fellowship (1983-85), the First Annual Phillip Rosen Award in Rheumatology (1984), a Canadian Arthritis Society Assistantship (1985-87), a Canadian Arthritis Society Associateship (1987-94) and the Lindy Fraser Award from the Osteoporosis Society (2002).
