Academic Interests
Daria O’Reilly is a new faculty member in the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She holds a faculty position as an Assistant Professor and is also the Faculty Director of the Field Evaluation and Economic Assessment Program (FEEAP) within the Programs for Assessment of Technology in Health (PATH) Research Institute.
In her academic capacity, Daria has established a course entitled Introduction to Health Technology Assessment within the Health Research Methodology Program (HRM 741). She is currently the coordinator and an instructor in the newly developed course.
Since arriving at McMaster as a post-doctoral fellow in 2003, Daria’s program of research has focused on the development and application of a diabetes economic model for tracking the impact of the management of type 2 diabetes in Ontario. The model simulates the long-term costs and health outcomes of new and existing type 2 diabetes management strategies in order to help inform decision-making in policy, planning and the delivery of diabetes care in Ontario. Using this model, Daria has evaluated a number of diabetes management interventions on behalf of the Ontario Health Technology Advisory Committee (OHTAC).
For her work in the area of diabetes, Daria has been awarded the 2007 Provincial Career Scientist Award under the Health Research Personnel Development (HRPD) Program within the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
Daria’s research areas include economic evaluation, health technology assessment, health policy, systematic review, meta-analysis, pharmacoepidemiology and clinical epidemiology. She is currently involved in the economic evaluation of various health technology assessments including, insulin pumps for type 1 diabetes, the use of an electronic chronic disease management system in primary care, hyperbaric oxygen therapy for chronic ulcers of the lower limb, a complex care coordination program designed to reduce obesity in children, and medication management through health information technology, to name a few.
